Giving Hope in DuBois is a community-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness and hardship throughout the DuBois area.
The coalition began in December of 2025, when founder Kim Mowry became aware of a growing but largely unseen homeless population in the community. What started as a moment of shock quickly became a calling—one rooted in compassion, faith, and a commitment to action. In 2026, Giving Hope in DuBois was officially registered as a nonprofit organization in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, solidifying its mission to serve those in need.
Our Mission
At its core, Giving Hope in DuBois exists to meet people where they are—offering practical support, human connection, and pathways toward stability. We believe every individual deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity for a better future.
Homelessness in our region is often hidden, shaped by factors such as financial hardship, mental health challenges, addiction, and lack of support systems. Many individuals move between temporary situations or remain unseen within the community, making awareness and outreach essential.
What We Do
Giving Hope in DuBois focuses on both immediate needs and long-term solutions.
We provide and coordinate:
- Essential supplies such as clothing, hygiene items, and seasonal necessities
- Backpack outreach with practical, portable resources
- Connections to food programs and community meal providers
- Guidance toward available services and support systems
- Assistance in identifying temporary shelter options and working toward permanent housing
We also advocate for increased resources and long-term solutions, including the need for accessible shelter options within the community.
A Community Effort
Giving Hope in DuBois is powered by a growing coalition of volunteers who bring diverse skills and a shared heart for service. The organization includes individuals with backgrounds in law, ministry, healthcare, and community outreach, working together to make a meaningful impact.
Regular meetings and outreach efforts allow volunteers to stay engaged, collaborate, and respond directly to needs as they arise.
